Today, Bea and Mike rescued a baby praying mantis from a spider's web. Mike preformed mantis surgery and removed the sticky web from it's tiny, green body with a stick Bea found. I was at a shoot, so I missed the whole thing, but it sounded incredible.
Bea and I read Charlotte's Web recently, and her curiousity for spiders and what they do with webs has certainly grown, though she did make me laugh when I asked her what she thought of the book when we finished and she said she was hungry for bacon. Ha! (Bea also had crazy good comprehension of the story and can recall all the messages Charlotte wove into her web as well as a few she didn't use, like crunchy; too much of a reminder of said bacon. Very bacon centric, that book was.)
We have some deep love for praying mantises around these parts, and now spiders too. A conflict, for sure. We just hope the spiders stick to flies and mosquitos and the praying mantis grows up nice and big.
Just so happens, that before I went to work, I grabbed a photo of a (the?) baby praying mantis on our kitchen window. Mike, you might not always feel like it, but you are an incredible dad.
